Trained and competent umpires are an essential component of cricket. As such USACA has embarked on an initiative to improve the quality of umpiring in its member leagues by recognizing the United States of America Cricket Umpires Association (USACUA) as the national umbrella organization of Umpires' Associations and/or individual umpires, with responsibility for training and assessment of umpires nationwide.

The USACUA was formed in 1992 and has obtained membership with the Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers (ACU&S) in England and the West Indies Cricket Umpire's Association (WICUA).

Presently, the USACUA is certified to hold training for and to conduct examinations on behalf of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) in the United States and has instituted a very rigorous training procedure that would require a minimum of 3 years (typically 4 years) to get fully qualified as an umpire.
