USA today defeated Oman in game three of their ICC WCL Division 3 tournament in Bermuda. It was tight finish to the game as USA chased down Oman’s target of 175 with only 2 wickets in hand, passing them in the 40th over.
Earlier in the day USA had Oman in huge trouble at 8-95, however, Oman rallied and USA let the tail wag as the last three batters were able to add a valuable 80 runs before eventually being bowled out for 175 in the final over of the innings.
For USA all the bowlers were good early in the innings especially Neil McGarrell who picked up 3-30 from his 10 overs. Elmore Hutchinson and Japen Patel also contributed well returning 2 wickets each.
With the bat USA were unable to show the poise and consistency of earlier games. They lost 3 wickets early to slump to 3-37 before Rashard Marshall and Steve Messiah steadied the ship with a 90 run stand. However when Messiah was dismissed for 39 it sparked a middle order collapse for USA who were in trouble at 7-142.
Marshall however proved to be the difference between the two sides, he increased his tempo when wickets fell around him eventually steering team USA home with a fantastic 72 not out from 83 balls.
Tomorrow USA face Uganda in a clash of the undefeated teams.
