Premier League - Coal Creek Cricket Club vs Yorkers Cricket Club (20-OCt-2012).
Source: Colorado Cricket League.
This was the final match weekend of the season and both teams were playing for pride. Heading into the regular long Colorado winter on a winning note was on the minds of both teams and CCCC chose the attacking option of batting first when they won the toss.
Niyaz (1/69) and Sanjeev (0/28) partnered well to bowl a good and testing opening spell with some swing and seam movement. Niyaz had Mantha out LBW early with a quick and swinging yorker. Thereafter, Sandeep (203*) and Amit (12) played well to put up a solid half-century stand before Das Thumma (1/28) had Amit out caught by Naval via a mis-timed attacking shot. Ashish (11) then helped Sandeep put together another good stand of 32 runs before his hard-work was undone by a lofted drive that was caught at long-off, off the bowling of Ramesh (1/49). At this point, YCC kept things relatively quite and the match was in the balance. However, after a few economical overs by the YCC bowlers, Sandeep and Rajesh (17*) decided to attack the bowling with a measure of caution and Sandeep brought up his century with a straight six while the team total moved into the 160s. After the second drinks break, there were still several wickets in hand and two set batsmen at the crease. C4 decided to attack and Sandeep led the way with a flurry of boundaries while Rajesh kept one end solid thereby making it very difficult for the YCC bowlers to find that important breakthrough. Ultimately, Sandeep brought up his double-century and after putting on over 200 runs with Rajesh, both batsmen decided to retire. Suresh (48) continued the onslaught in the company of the technically sound Avinash (13*) to take CCCC to its highest ever score of 358 runs in their allotted 40 overs. Vivek Madhavan (0/41) was the most economical of the YCC bowlers.
The chase was always going to be tough and things got much harder by the time Suresh (3/38) completed his opening spell. He accounted for two early wickets and in the company of Narendar (0/24), gave CCCC the start to the innings that they had hoped for. Sanjeev (69) and Naval (31) counter-attacked well to take YCC to a respectable score of 105/2 but at this point the asking-rate wasn't really on anybody's minds. Rajesh Mosur (5/25) took advantage of some adventurous batting by the YCC batsmen to take regular wickets. He even removed the well-set Naval with a crafty, in-dipping arm-ball that breached the batsmen's defenses to strike timber. Suresh came back into the attack and with the help of Vaidy (1/12) cleaned up the remaining wickets to hand CCCC a big win of 225 runs. Rajesh, for his debut 5-for and Suresh for his attacking bowling were the pick of the C4 bowlers
The match was played in good spirits and full marks to both teams for taking this "dead-rubber" seriously.
Sandeep Bollampally, for his double-century was adjudged MoM.
